The story behind the bucket

Why a fisherman from the UK decided to build the outdoor kitchen he could never find in a shop.

Hi. I'm Stewart, founder of The Greatest Outdoor Company and the person behind the HungerHub.

I have been fishing since I was old enough to hold a rod. Rivers, lakes, reservoirs. Overnight trips, weekend sessions, early morning starts with fog still on the water. If I was not at work, there was a good chance I was somewhere with a line in.

And for most of that time, I accepted that cooking outdoors meant dragging half your kitchen across a field, spending twenty minutes searching for the spatula at the bottom of a bag, and eating something barely warm from a pan that was never quite right for the job.

I had a cool box for the food. A separate bag for the stove. Another bag for the pans. A third bag that had the plates and mugs and cutlery in, unless someone had moved things around, in which case you were eating off a tin lid. Sound familiar?

A few years ago, I started paying proper attention to the gear I was buying. Not just using it and putting up with it, but actually looking at what I was spending and asking whether I was getting value for it. What I found frustrated me.

Most outdoor cooking gear was either overpriced and slightly underwhelming, or affordable and actually underwhelming. Pans that warped after a season. Stoves that felt fragile. Complete kit sets that turned out to be missing six things. Items sold individually for prices that seemed designed to extract money rather than solve problems.

I wanted one thing. I wanted to be able to grab it on the way out the door, get to the river, and cook a proper breakfast. Eggs. Bacon. Toast. A decent coffee. I did not think that was an unreasonable ask.

So I built it.

The HungerHub took a while to get right. The bucket size had to be exactly right to fit everything without the lid bulging. The stoves had to be the right output for the cookware. The medical stone coated griddle had to be the right weight and size to actually cook a full breakfast without things spilling over. The shelves had to be stable on real surfaces, not just on a flat table in a product photograph.

I called it the Kitchen in a Bucket because that is exactly what it is. Not a camping kit. Not a starter set. A complete outdoor kitchen that happens to fit in a bucket.

The Greatest Outdoor Company exists to make products like this. Smart, practical, built to do the job and priced properly. The HungerHub is the first. There is more to come.

If you have got one, I hope it has earned its place in your boot.
